Mistresses and wives clash over trapped Chilean miners

Where do you even begin on something like this?  In the grand scheme of things, all the children deserve to get some kind of compensation. Why should they suffer for the indiscrestions of their parents?  There was one quote in the story that irritated me:

"Those that truly love their men have slipped away quietly not wanting to cause any more pain to the families but others are putting up a fight."

And why shouldn't they? Why shouldn't these women fight for compensation to put food on the table for their kids?  Bottom line: Cheating and lying sucks. And this is the kind of b.s. that happens when you conduct like life like an out-of-control 4-yr. old and think you have to have everything...and everybody.  Damn.

Divorce Insurance: Because a Prenup Just Isn't Enough

 From Time.com

WedLock, as it's coyly named, is a new type of casualty insurance that gives the unhappily married policyholder a payout after he or she is unhitched. It costs about $16 a month for every $1,250 of coverage. But to discourage people from signing up just prior to their divorce, policyholders must ante up for four years before the policy will pay out. It adds a premium of $250 per unit for every year the marriage survives beyond four. So if a policyholder who bought 10 units got divorced after 10 years, he or she would have handed over $19,188 and would receive a payout of $27,500. It's probably not worth getting divorced for, but the lump sum might salve some wounds, whether through lawyers, vacations or subscriptions to the Rhapsody Book Club.

I read this article and I had a couple reactions:

1. If you are getting a prenup and divorce insurance, why not just call the whole thing off.

2. Maybe as a society we should start looking into giving everyone of this country the same privliges married people do, so that people don't have to feel compelled to get married just so they can get health insurance, or buy divorce insurance, etc.

Your request is being processed... Mom Refuses To Bail Out Teen Son Accused Of Car Theft, Says He Is 'Spoiled'

HuffPo Chicago ran this story today about a mom this is not having it.

On Saturday, 17-year-old Ravontay Hutchins allegedly stole a pizza delivery driver's car outside of a restaurant in Little Italy. The teen was caught by police shortly after, and now he's off to jail--since his mom wouldn't bail him out.
            ...

At a hearing Sunday in Cook County Criminal Court, Hutchins' mother told Judge Peggy Chiampas that Hutchins' father was serving with the military in Iraq and that she'd done everything she could for the boy, who was "spoiled."

"I want to know why there's not more parents like this," Judge Chiampas said. "I applaud her for her truthfulness."

There are a few ways this could turn out. He could be "scared straight" by the experience, or turned hard and this jail time will just give him street cred.  I'm not really sure, however the fact that he's 14 and stole a car AND his mother was frustrated enough to let him stay in jail as a lesson tells me this probably isn't the first stunt he's pulled.

Because it's not always about saving money and paying bills

One of the line items in my budget charities. Sure, it's important to save, be frugal, etc. however what's the point of hoarding all this money if you can't do anything really good with it? Especially with organizations that are doing amazing work in trying to make this world a better place.

One such organization I'm looking into is The Innocence Project.

The Innocence Project’s full-time staff attorneys and Cardozo clinic students provide direct representation or critical assistance in most of these cases. The Innocence Project’s groundbreaking use of DNA technology to free innocent people has provided irrefutable proof that wrongful convictions are not isolated or rare events but instead arise from systemic defects. Now an independent nonprofit organization closely affiliated with Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University, the Innocence Project’s mission is nothing less than to free the staggering numbers of innocent people who remain incarcerated and to bring substantive reform to the system responsible for their unjust imprisonment.

It's been a while

So what's new? My father passed away of pancreatic cancer last year. My mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer last week.

That's all I really have the emotional capacity to say at the moment.

Birthday Spending

Not mine, but my best friend and my mother. Their birthday's are tomorrow and Friday respectively. I spent about $50 a piece to have flowers delivered to them. For that price, they better like them. I'm not worried though, I save $200 for this, so I've got $100 left over that I can put towards savings.
